A Bowl a Day – Japanese Bowls

Temnoku Bowl Song Dynasty

Temnoku is the Japanese word for a type of tea bowl produced in China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).  It also refers to a mountain between China’s Zhejiang and Anhui Provinces. I have to wonder if the Japanese people of this period considered owning something imported, like a Chinese tenmoku tea bowl, had the same appeal as owning a Mercedes Benz does to some people today!
