Austin – Art and Music
So much to see and do in Austin. There is music every night in many locations. We heard James McMurtry a couple of nights ago at the Continental Club. His father wrote “Lonesome Dove” and more.
I contacted three different ceramic artists. So, far I was able to visit two of them. Rebecca Roberts lives in the hills above Austin. Her studio is situated on a lovely wooded lot. You wander a path from her house to her studio. The path has small sculptural surprises along the way. Once inside, you find an inviting personal gallery of her work and then her spacious, well organized studio. We had a wonderful conversation about ceramic work. Rebecca sold most of her work at weekend shows and fairs for over 40 years. This type of tenacity amazes me. I loved her work instantly. We talked about carrying it in the gallery either by the summer of 2014 or definitely in 2015. She even invited me to come back for a day of play in her studio. Such a generous woman. While she and I talked, Brian was able to take a ride on her husband’s motorcycle. He came back smiling, loving the winding roads.
Here is Rebecca in her garden:
