A peek inside the studio – autumn rituals, inspiration, and reflections.
🏺 In the Studio

Inspiration and self-care for ceramic artists often come from unexpected places. Lately, I’ve been noticing how my daily walks with Leo inspire my ceramic work. We wander through Ottawa County Parks and along the lakeshore, soaking in the sights and sounds — sunlight filtering through trees, the rich hues of wet bark, ever-changing sand patterns shaped by water.
These reflections often inspire my forms and glazes, adding a touch of the outdoors to my ceramic creations.
💬 Where are you finding inspiration this season?
I’d love to hear — reply and share your sources of inspiration!
🌿 A Morning Just for Me (and Leo)

How do you start your mornings?
For me, it begins with freshly brewed coffee — and, if I’m honest, a quick scroll through my phone.
Lately, my reflections wonder whether my mornings could be more intentional, more personal?
So, I’ve been experimenting with a tech-free start to my day. I still enjoy that first sip of coffee, but now I pair it with a printed book and my favorite handmade mug. Sometimes, I go for a walking meditation.
These small changes have brought more calm and joy into my mornings, and I hope they might inspire you to create your own mindful, tech-free ritual.

☀️ A Day of Doing Nothing

Last Sunday, I dedicated the day to doing “nothing” — or at least, nothing overly “productive.” My version of rest included a workout, a walk, quiet reading, and sitting with Leo while watching the world go by.
Harvard’s Dr. Arthur C. Brooks describes the perfect “lazy day” as one that includes an activity just enough to keep you engaged without overdoing it — like baking, sketching, or calling a friend. Something joyful that adds gentle structure to the day.
I’ve found this kind of restorative pause fuels my creative energy in the studio. Now, I feel inspired and renewed to continue making and creating new work.
P.S.: I’m preparing for the Artisan Trail event on December 6, 2025. Stay tuned for details!
Take good care,
Cyndi
