Description
Quiet Water I | Lake Michigan Ceramic Bowl
This Lake Michigan ceramic bowl is part of my handmade porcelain work shaped by shoreline light, sand, and water along the lakeshore here in Grand Haven.
The surface carries soft sand tones and gentle movement that reflect the textures found along the water’s edge. Fine markings sweep across the interior like wind patterns across the dunes, while small circular impressions suggest bubbles and the quiet rhythm of waves touching the shoreline.
Along the exterior, darker tones and embedded forms create contrast — recalling the shifting line where water meets sand.
At 11 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall, the bowl sits comfortably as a serving piece or quiet centerpiece, allowing the surface to catch and reflect light much the way the lake does throughout the day.
The result is a vessel that carries the feeling of the lakeshore — sand shifting beneath water, light moving across the surface, and the subtle patterns left behind by wind and waves. I wrote more about how the Lake Michigan shoreline influences my ceramic surfaces in a recent reflection.
Each piece is hand built and one of a kind.
The bowl pictured here is the exact piece that will arrive at your door.
