Shoreline Layers IV | Lake Michigan Ceramic Bowl

This Lake Michigan ceramic bowl is part of my Shoreline Layers series, an exploration of the patterns revealed along the Grand Haven shoreline.

The interior surface reflects the subtle color shifts left behind as water moves across the sand. Soft blue bands suggest the lake’s edge, while warmer sand tones gather toward the center of the bowl. Across the surface, small circular impressions hint at bubbles and the quiet rhythm of water meeting the shore.

Along the exterior, a darker textured glaze carries a more rugged surface, echoing the deeper tones often visible along the waterline where waves repeatedly wash across the beach.

At 11 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall, the bowl works comfortably as a serving vessel or as a quiet centerpiece. The wide interior allows the layered glazes and surface textures to catch changing light throughout the day.

The result is a vessel that reflects the movement of the lakeshore—sand shifting beneath water, shoreline patterns revealed by waves, and the steady presence of Lake Michigan.

Each piece is hand built and one of a kind.
