Shoreline Light IV | Ceramic Lake Michigan Mug with Beach Sand

This mug is part of an ongoing series I’ve been working on—looking closely at what happens where water meets the sand.

The upper section holds that movement. The glaze shifts and breaks in a way that reminds me of water just before it settles. There’s a point where that change happens—where motion begins to slow and flatten out.

Below that, the surface quiets. The lower portion is softer, with small specks and subtle marks that feel more like sand after the water has passed across it.

The handle carries some of that same movement. And just below it, there are seven small marks—one for each day of the week. A quiet reminder to use your time well.

Each mug in this series begins with the same idea, but the surface always lands a little differently. No two are exactly the same.

This piece is made from porcelain and fired to cone 9 in an electric kiln. Lake Michigan beach sand is worked into the surface, bringing a small part of that shoreline into the piece.

Comfortable to hold and made for daily use. Dishwasher safe.
