Shoreline Light – Orange Horizon | Lake Michigan Ceramics

Shoreline Light – Orange Horizon

An orange sun rests against a blue sky, with a few simple marks suggesting birds moving across the water. This handmade Lake Michigan ceramic mug reflects the colors and quiet movement I notice along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The upper portion is finished in a rich blue glaze that continues inside the mug and over its handle. Below, my Lake Michigan sand glaze creates a softly textured surface, with gently moving lines that suggest water washing across the beach.

A hand-formed handle and subtle variations in the glaze give this mug its own character. The orange sun adds a warm point of color against the blue, a small reminder of those moments when the light changes over the lake.

Part of my Shoreline Light Series, this mug brings a little of the Lake Michigan shoreline into an everyday ritual.

Handmade in my Grand Haven, Michigan studio.
