Description
Shoreline Remnants – Handmade Lake Michigan Serving Bowl
Walk along Lake Michigan and you notice more than water and sand.
There are traces of what has been built along the shoreline—pieces of old retaining walls, weathered structures, and places where boats have been tied and secured. Over time, water, wind, and sand soften these structures and make them part of the landscape.
Shoreline Remnants grew from those observations.
The bowl’s soft white surface is layered with quiet blue marks and sandy textures that suggest water moving across the shore. Along one side, a small raised architectural detail interrupts the organic surface—a reference to the remnants of a retaining wall or the tie-downs used to anchor a boat.
I like that contrast. The bowl holds both the natural movement of the shoreline and the evidence that people have been there.
At 10 inches across, it is generously sized for serving salads, vegetables, fruit, or a favorite dish at the table. When it isn’t being used, its sculptural form allows it to stand on its own.
Each mark and variation is part of the handmade process, making this a one-of-a-kind piece.
