Studio, Gallery, and Life: 45, visiting Santa Fe

Last year we had planned to visit Santa Fe for my 60th birthday.  Covid delayed it by one year.  We are staying in the same rental home that I had found 18 months ago.  It’s been perfect for us – 7 adults and two kiddos.

We visited the National Museum of Nuclear Science.  It was worth the stop before heading North.

I love visiting New Mexico.  The sky has a different color to it compare to Michigan’s skies. I couldn’t live here full time but I do love this high desert.  Before we head home, I need to gather some sand.  I collect sand from where ever I travel.  You may not realize that I collect Lake Michigan sand for my glaze.  It’s not food safe so you will find it on the lower third of the outside of my handmade mugs.

Did you know that Santa Fe is the second oldest city in the USA? It was settled in 1607.

In the 1500s, the “Kingdom of New Mexico” was owned by the Spanish and its capital was San Juan Pueblo. But in 1609, conquistador Don Pedro de Peralta moved the capital 25 miles south and named the settlement Santa Fe.

Today, the city is home to the country’s oldest public building, the Palace of Governors. It’s also known for its thriving, local artist community.

I am not going to lie.  I am a bit nervous about tomorrow morning.  The kids bought tickets for us to experience Meow Wolf, an immersive art experience.  I read the reviews.  We will be climbing through dark tunnels, going down a slide, and not knowing what is around the next turn makes me a bit nervous.  I am claustrophobic.  I am going to do it though.  If my 5 year old granddaughter can enjoy the experience, then, so can I.  (I hope she does.).
