Shoreline Layers III | Lake Michigan Ceramic Bowl
This Lake Michigan ceramic bowl is part of my Shoreline Layers series, an exploration of the patterns revealed along the Grand Haven shoreline.
The surface reflects the layered patterns that appear where waves repeatedly move across the beach—shoreline color shifts left behind as the water moves across the sand. Subtle bands move across the interior, recalling the darker line of wet sand that forms where water meets the shore.
Small circular impressions suggest bubbles and the quiet rhythm of waves touching the beach, while fine markings move through the surface like wind patterns across the sand.
The exterior carries a darker textured glaze that echoes the deeper tones visible along the waterline.
At 11 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall, the bowl works comfortably as a serving vessel or as a quiet centerpiece. The broad interior allows the layered glaze and surface textures to catch changing light throughout the day.
The result is a vessel that carries the feeling of the lakeshore—sand shifting beneath water, shoreline patterns revealed by waves, and the steady rhythm of Lake Michigan shaping the beach.
Each piece is hand built and one of a kind.
The bowl pictured here is the exact piece that will arrive at your door.
